Geohot Sets A New Target
George Hotz (Geohot) is once again planning to piss off Sony by pushing their buttons in a bad way. The programmer released various statements both verbally and physically through the hacks and exploits he had released for the PlayStation 3 previously. A month ago we discovered that Geohot was working on some Windows Phone 7 hacks to open up the development side of that platform, but what else has he got planned?
We found out earlier that Geohot plans on Jailbreaking the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play (Sony’s PlayStation-branded Phone).
Mr. Hotz had this to say about the topic regarding Sony’s legal issues, stating his next project would target Sony once again:
In fact, I want the opposite reputation set, that the more a company tries to abuse the legal system, the harder we rally back. I will be the first person in line on the launch date of the Xperia Play, and itching to get my hands on the Next GEOHOT Project.
So no, it’s not the NGP which he joked about in an interview – Though he probably will later on in the year ;). Geohot planning to hack the Play may result in me selling my newly purchased Nexus S if the Xperia gets cracked open enough. The Xperia Play is an android device, which is a platform that I can personally develop for - So I don’t exactly what he could do that would be so unique as the system is already open-source and supports emulators from Android’s market. We know the young hacker does not support piracy and any infringement of copyright, so seeing what he’ll specifically desire in the device would be interesting to see.
I guess we’ll have to wait to see what will actually happen.
As always, we’ll keep you posted! :)
